Reflections - Banco de alimentos

Before the Activity:

This activity will be the first time I take part on a charity event and I am enthusiastic about it. This organization, which collects food which people donate to them in the supermarkets around my local area to later on send it to other food-distributor charities, is an excellent one and I know it will be a gratifying experience. I do not think there will be no problem at all as I will not take part in the activity alone, but will be with another two classmates. I think we will be able to handle everything.

During the Activity:

It was certainly not as calm as I pictured it to be. Massive waves of people one after the other came, donating gigantic amounts of food of all sorts to us. We were at the busiest time of the day for the supermarket, and certainly we did see it. Nevertheless, it was as profitable for the charity organization as it was fun. It did not went on as expected but gratefully, thanks to the cooperation between my classmates and I, we managed to complete the task without any problem whatsoever.

After the Activity:

I have certainly met all of my goals and expectations from this activity. The only thing I would have changed is that I would like to have been told actually the enormous amount of people who came to the supermarket at that time of the day to be prepared for it. It did not present any problem as I mentioned before, but, nonetheless it would not have caused us any harm either to know. I have learned a lot. Mainly this has been how to cooperate with a team under high stress, high, and, in addition to it, how to be a better communicator with people I do not know, in order to achieve an objective, which was to help the most people possible into donating.
These were the objectives I met during the activity:

2. Undertaken new challenges
4. Worked collaboratively with others.
6. Engaged with issues of global importance (poverty in Spain has exponentially increased)
7. Considered the ethical implications of my actions (the harder we worked, the more profit will gain other people who need help from society to move forward. Moreover, it is difficult to ask someone you do not know for food. Therefore we had to act ethically and appropiately with the people in the supermarket ).
