Before the Activity:
This activity consists on developing a Newsletter each trimester for the School. Different people involved in this project have different tasks. I am one of the writers of the Journal Club and am in charge of writing articles for the Newsletter. I think the Journal Club would be an interested activity to do and am eager to start. I think the most difficult part of this project will be the organization within the students themselves but I hope everything goes smoothly. I believe that by helping each other out there will be no problems whatsoever in the Journal Club.
During the Activity.
Everything went smoothly as I thought it would and it the first newsletters have not been a problem at all. We did not face real problems apart from an editing issue which was rapidly solved. This issue was tackled by the Journal Club's main editors and as I said, presented no problem to the newsletter. I am however noticing something I did not expect or did not think about much upon becoming a member of the Journal Club. In every article I write, I must write in a very objective point of view. Moreover, the writing must be simple so that anyone can understand it but also professional and not coloquial. The way in which the articles are shown could be seen as a reflection of the education of our school. Consequently, we, the writers, must be very aware of the fact our work can be seen by ultimately anyone. This makes us have to be aware of the ethical implications of what writing an article in the newsletter is, and how it may impact our audience.
After the Activity:
I have met some of my main objectives and goals:
- I have considered the ethical implications of my actions because in every article I write, I must do this on an objective point of view, using the proper vocabulary and diction. This is because everybody in the school can see these articles, parents included. This makes us have to be aware of the ethical implications our actions can have.
- This activity presents something completely new to me as it is writing for the for the newsletter as part of the Journal Club. I am developing new skills about how to write and in what way.
- I have worked collaboratively with the rest of members.
- I have shown persistence in this activity, being in the team for a long time. Nevertheless, there is more to come so we have to stay constantly on task.
I have also met my personal objective being to do a good job on the writing itself of the articles I am in charge of. I am glad of being a writer and not an editor as this is certainly the role I like the most. I have learned how to write better in general, being aware of who my audience is and being careful of the language used in my articles in the process.
