Reflections - Bake sale

No comments:

Before the Activity:
We will be organizing a bake sale for the purpose of fundraising. We want to raise money in order to send boxes full of chalk, notebooks, and other classroom material to a school in India. We really want to carry out this activity and all of my classmates and myself are very excited about it. I will try to sell as much as possible so as to be able to send as much material as I can to this school in India. As we are all very excited and all want to do this project, I don't think we will be facing any problems concerning classmates not behaving as they should. I believe (and hope) everything will work out fine and our project will be a success.

During the Activity:
My classmates and I all brought food, cooked or prepared at home, to the Bake sale. I baked a very big cake which didn't turn out to be the most desired good in the Bake sale. The brownie got the first prize instead. I was not very concerned about my food not being very popular. I only cared about raising the sufficient amount of money to fulfill our project so if other food was being sold extremely well it's completely OK for me.

After the Activity:
The bake sale was a complete success, and we made a good amount of money out of it. We were able to send a lot of large boxes to this school and recently we've had news about the school. They sent us pictures of the children very happy, and amazed with all of their new material. We are all very happy and hope we will be able to help more people in different ways during our CAS. This has been a experience I am very grateful of because it has showed me how with cooperation between my classmates we have been able to reach our objectives. I have no doubt that without such a good teamwork as we had in this activity, the whole bakesale would have been a disaster. Other classes have had this problem when facing their first bakesale but we have not, thanks to all of our great teamwork which was made this event a success.

I met the following learning objectives during the course of this activity:

2. Undertaken new challenges (A bake sale is something completely new for me and for my
class! I hope this will be a very enjoyable experience).

3. Planned and initiated activities (We have organized different groups and tasks between
our classmates so that each of us knows exactly what to do in order to make this bake sale as
good  as possible).

4. Worked collaboratively with others (The bake sale will not work if we don’t work
collaboratively, this is the key to make this work).

6. Engaged with issues of global importance (Education is not as developed as it seems in
many parts of the world. I want to take part in the process of changing and I believe this is a
good start).

7. Considered the ethical implications of their actions (We can be a source of help for the
school in India. If we do not take this serious, maybe we will not be able to help them).

8. Developed new skills (I’m not really into bakery even so I hope I’ll become better at
baking).

Below are some images we took during the activity!
