Final Reflection Organic Farm

They time has come to finally reflect how has this project, the Organic Farm, been overall. From the beginning, the Organic Farm was a completely new experience for me. I had never taken part on such a big colaborative project which involved almost all my class and it was a challenge for me to lead the project in the correct way. At the beginning, most of the work which had to be done involved talking to experts on the topic and doing research. This stage of the project was not amusing at all but it openned the way for a better time. However, during the process of building the organic farm to its end, it involved an enormous amount of coordination, which had to come from me and from my two other classmates which with me were co-leaders of the project. Planning such a long-term activity which involved a very large group of people was extremely complicated and in many ocassions it made me angry having to do a greater workload than what I was supposed to because other members simply would not do what they were assigned. This probably was why the organic farm did not last longer.

I personal involvement was very big in this project. I was very enthusiastic at the beginning about how much could the organic farm grow and how cool it would be to have reallly big plants in the school's yard. When it comes to acting as a leader I think I was not strict at all. Certainly, I should have made the point from the very beginning that those who would not work and take care of the organic farm should just not become a member. Almost the whole class entered the project and those who did not was because they were already engaged in other projects at the date. As a leader I should have stopped everybody from coming to the organic farm and making sure that only those who really want to work hard and make the most out of the activity could become a member. This, if established from the beginning would be a way to make the activity better.I think I was fed up at a point and after so many time I decided to let go of the activity as a leader and become a member. This is why in the following project of the organic farm I was just a member, not a leader or coordinator. If everyone had donde what they were supposed to do I firmly belief that my priject could have lasted longer.

However, at a personal level, even though my activity ended when the plants died after summer, I was still enthusiastic and perseverant about the organic farm and kept taking part in the next project which was focused towards a more educative way. Being engaged with issues of global importance has taught me how fragile our ecosystem is and, sadly, what a little impact can a single person make on changing the environment for better. Nevertheless, when a large group as this one joined together, we amazed the whole school with the organic farm! This has taught me how there is still chance to help our planet if we work colaboratively, as we have during the activity.

Overall, I have developped new skills involving leadership and coordination of large groups. I feel like I am much more confortable as a leader. In addition, I have learnt a wide range of skills concerning plant growing, from how to place the seeds properly or take care of the soil, to prepare the best and more environmentally-friendly products to keep sludges away.
